Why Install a Generator in Your Home?

Losing electricity in your home can be very stressful, not to mention costly if it is out for an extended period of time. On average a bag of milk will go bad after spending 4 hours at room temperature, and most meats will generally unthaw within 2-4 hours. Health Canada does not recommend refreezing meat if it has been unthawed at any temperature above 40° F. On top of the stresses and financial strains that a generator can take away, it can also increase the value of your home.

Power Issues in the GTA

Toronto Hydro states that on average each home in the GTA has just under 2 power outages per year. This is only the average, meaning that the outages are much more frequent in some areas. Toronto and its surrounding area have been having more and more electrical power outages over the past few years, and we don’t expect them to stop any time soon. Toronto Hydro owns and operates $2.6 billion in equipment and assets, meaning that it is going to be very expensive, and therefore take a very long time to fix the issues we are having. Toronto Hydro also states that the current boom in construction around the city has been draining our power, and this is why we have been seeing outages so much for frequently over the past few years. With Toronto’s new subway plan beginning construction in 2016, the power outages are only going to get worse and occur more frequent. Basic Home Package

The basic home package is for the home owner that does not experience many power outages. Equipped with an 11KW air cooled generator, 100AMP transfer switch, and a cold weather kit, the basic home package is perfect for maintaining your home during short outages. This package will put back on your lights, as well as your refrigerator, and some other smaller appliances.

Standard Home Package

The standard home package is for the home owner that does not want to be inconvenienced when the power fails. Equipped with a 22KW air cooled generator, 100AMP transfer switch, and a cold weather kit, the basic home package is designed for homes with a 100AMP service and will enable customers to operate up to 100% of their home during a power outage.

Advanced Home Package

The advanced home package is for the home owner that does not want to be inconvenienced when the power fails. Equipped with a 45KW liquid cooled generator, 200AMP transfer switch, and a cold weather kit, the basic home package is designed for homes with a 200AMP service and will enable customers to operate up to 100% of their home during a power outage.

Power outages can cost a business thousands of dollars each day, and we are here to ensure that your business is always running at its full potential. We have a wide variety of generators available for small and large business ranging from 24KW – 150KW.

Already Own a Generator?

If you already have a generator, then you know that they require some annual maintenance. As well as installing backup generator systems, we also do service on them and provide maintenance for them. Inside your generator is an engine very similar to a car engine. This engine does need to be taken care of as the one in your car would. Your generator requires an oil change at least once a year, as well regular exercise if there are no power outages. Upon installation of your generator, the installer should have shown you the very easy way to manually activate your generator. If not we can show you how, it’s very easy! We recommend that you start up your generator at least 3-4 times per year and let it run for 5-10 minutes when you do. If you don’t feel comfortable doing these things yourself or simply just don’t have time, we are always available for service and maintenance calls on generators.

ECRA/ESA

It is Provincial Law that all electrical contractors performing electrical installations in the province of Ontario are an accredited and registered contractor with the ESA (Electrical Safety Authority).

The regulations requires that all correspondence between the contractor and client acknowledge the contractors accreditation and registration number. The individual number confirms the contractor is certified in performing the electrical work.

It is both the responsibility of the contractor and client to affirm that the contractor performing such work is qualified to do so.

WHO WE ARE

PDR MECHANICAL has been in business for over 20 years. It is owned and operated by Paul Rose. Paul is a Master Electrician, has his G1 gas technician license, air conditioning license, and refrigeration license. PDR technicians are qualified to perform service and installation in backup generator systems, pools & hot tubs, and HVAC, among other services.

We take pride in ensuring all of our projects are completed on time and within budget. Our technicians are fully trained, qualified, licensed, and insured to provide quality work to meet with all local, provincial, and field related codes and regulations
